Momentum At A Standstill

Life is a journey. You have a destination.
You have goals, timelines, things you’re trying to get done.
Even when the plan changes, you’re still headed somewhere.
You slow down at stop signs. You look both ways. Then you keep moving.
That’s how it works, that's how it should work.
But sometimes traffic builds.
Things happen you didn’t plan for.
People need help.
And this is where I’ve had to be honest with myself.
In those moments, it’s easy to put the car in park.
I’ve stopped what I was working on to help everyone else.
I’ve paused my own plans to make sure other people were okay.
Somewhere in that, I loose focus on what I’m doing and why I started.
Putting my car in park didn’t just help the situation.
But it stopped my progress.
I stepped out of my lane.
I got distracted.
I lost momentum.
And the longer I stayed there, the harder it was to get moving again.
Helping people matters to me. That part is real.
But stopping my own life every time something comes up, came at a cost.
I don’t need to fix every situation.
I don’t need to manage every delay.
I don’t need to abandon my own direction to prove I care.
Some pauses are necessary.
Some moments require attention.
But I can’t completely shut down.
I’m learning the difference between slowing down and stopping.
Between being aware and getting stuck.
I can stay in the car.
Hands on the wheel.
Paying attention without losing sight.
The destination still matters.
And so does staying in motion.
Detours happen. The voice inside you to keep going to proceed to the route doesn’t disappear it will reroute you. You may arrive later than planned, but you’re still headed in the right direction unless you decide to stop listening.
I’ve always had a heart for others, and that won’t change. What’s changing is how I move. I’m learning to help when I can, pause when I need to, and still stay connected to where I’m going.
